mind of an athlete

The smell of freshly cut grass and rain is in the air. A faint sound of lawnmowers in the near distance. You look down at your bloodied knee, which has now dried up and formed into a crisp, veiny line oozing below your strawberry-sized wound.

Your brow slowly releases a bead of sweat and your heart is pounding rapidly against your chest like a beating drum. Boom. Boom. The intensity of this moment is unmatched, slow down… You look down at your hands and clench a tight grip as if to convince yourself “I’ve got this.”  You close your eyes and take a long, deep breath.

Your eyes open slowly as you exhale. there’s something different, a regained intensity and focus is apparent, almost as if you are a lion about to pounce on its prey. Your focus turns back to the clock, that’s when the reality of the moment slaps you square in the face – only ten seconds left…

You immediately envision everything you could have done differently to win the game; a few missed opportunities replay discreetly in the window of this moment in your mind. That extra inch. Damnit. You wrestle yourself mentally for a brief moment… no turning back now.

Onward.

Your focus snaps to reality, a rejuvenated focus, bouncing up and down from the balls of your feet. You shake it out by rolling your head a few times to feel airtight. Deep breath, hold at the top, elevated consciousness. Deep exhale.

Go time.

Every TruAthlete has envisioned this moment. This may be your last opportunity to prove what could have been.

Cheers to second chances. Are you game?
